WOLFFORTH, TX—Behind the stellar play of Junior Quarterback Maverick McIvor and lights-out defense, the Central Bobcats defeated Wolfforth Frenship 49-14 on the road Friday night.
“I thought we played really well tonight,” said San Angelo Central Head Coach Brent Davis after the win. “I’m really proud of our guys.”
McIvor threw for three touchdowns and rushed for one in a first half that saw the Bobcats jump out to a 28-0 lead by the end of the first half. The junior would finish the night 18 for 29 with 248 yards passing, three passing touchdowns, and one interception. Overall, Maverick finished with 322 yards of total offense and five total scores in the win.
McIvor started the scoring for Central late in the first quarter when he scampered 23 yards to the end zone, giving Central a slim 7-0 lead with 21 seconds left in the first quarter

It was also a night where fans welcomed back Senior Receiver Jesse Scott Jr., who missed the Midland Lee game a week ago due to injury. On Scott’s first reception Friday night, the former Lake View Chief hauled in a 33-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter to put Central up 14-0 with 8:22 left in the half. Scott’s second catch would mirror his first as a 15-yard touchdown to put the Bobcats up 21-0 with just over five minutes left to play in the first half. The senior finished the night with four catches for 66-yards and a pair of scores.
“It was an amazing feeling,” said a jubilated Scott after the game. “I didn’t think I was going to score on the first catch.”

The defense was the standout of the night, however. The Bobcat’s defense held Frenship to just 205 total yards of offense on Friday night. The defense also held the Tigers to just 6-of-19 on third-down conversions.
“It’s huge,” said Senior Defensive Back Gage Smith. “It’s a huge motivator going into Permian.”

“Going into Permian, we’re going to need [good defense],” said Coach Davis of his defense. “I think tonight was a good tune-up.
With the score 42-7 in the fourth quarter following the first Frenship touchdown of the night, Running-back De’Marcus Cobb got in on the action and found his way to the promised-land for the first time all season.

The Bobcats improve to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in district play. They’ll host Odessa Permian (6-0, 3-0) next Friday at San Angelo Stadium.

best Permian can do is 9-0 this regular season since one of their non-district opponents cancelled on them, but good luck getting to 7-0 as they've lost to Central 4 straight years
