Five teams from the Concho Valley are in the Texas Football rankings this week.
The Central Bobcats (6-0, 2-0) are coming off a big 52-28 victory over previously undefeated Midland Lee and the Wall Hawks remained perfect with a 78-0 win over Grape Creek.
The win over Lee was good enough to jump the Bobcats up three places to 17th in the state. In the win, Central jumped out to a 35-0 lead over the Rebels behind the play of Quarterback Maverick McIvor. McIvor threw for five touchdowns for the fourth consecutive time this season.
At 18th, right behind Central, is district 2-6A contender Odessa Permian, who also remained unbeaten after a 35-9 win over Midland last week. Central faces winless Frenship this week before taking on Permian at home on Oct. 27.
Wall held their top spot in 3A-D1 after their sixth-straight win and district opener. In that win, Junior Quarterback Garrett Bridgford rushed for 101 yards and a pair of touchdowns while also throwing for 37 yards. Five other rushers found the endzone once in Wall's dominant victory.
Sonora (6-0) was idle during week seven and remained fifth in the state for 3A-D2. The Broncos are currently behind Canadian, Newton, Gunter and Lexington in the standings. Sonora will open up District 3-3A Division 2 play on the road against Alpine (5-2, 1-0) this Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Mason (6-0) also enjoyed their bye week last week. The Punchers held at second in the 2A-D1 standings behind 5-1 Mart. Mason will be on the road against the Harper Longhorns (5-2, 0-1) to open up District 14 play.
In the six-man ranks, only 1A-D2 Blackwell cracked the top-ten for teams in the area. The Hornets are 7-0 this season and defeated Santa Anna via the mercy-rule in their 52-0 victory last week. Blackwell will begin District 7 play at home against the Loraine Bulldogs (3-4).
