51 Compete in 3rd Annual San Angelo Triathlon Sunday Morning

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — The 3rd Annual San Angelo Triathlon kicked off this morning at 7 a.m. from Spring Creek Marina on Lake Nasworthy.

The top category course incorporates Olympic distances, including a 1,500-meter swim, 40-kilometer bike race, and 10-kilometer run. There are 15 contestants on the Olympic course.

There is also a sprint category with 500-meter swim, 20k bike course, and 10k run. Most of the contestants are tackling this course.

Beginners are competing in a 200-meter swim, 20k bike course, and 5k run. There are two contestants on the beginner course.

The bike course starts on Knickerbocker Rd. south of Mathis Field and runs across the equalization channel towards a turnaround about half way to Dove Creek.

Watch for bicyclists this morning if traveling that way.

The running course is on Spillway Rd., Spring Creek Dr. Ranger and Camper Rd.

Most of the participants are from out of town, traveling from Austin, San Antonio, Midland/Odessa, and El Paso.

However, Shane Plymell, CEO of Shannon Medical Center, will be one of the top finishers of the Sprint course. We will post results once the awards ceremony is complete.
