San Angelo Bandits Arena Football Moves to Belton, Texas

SAN ANGELO, TX - The San Angelo Bandits Arena Football team is officially closing down after owner Randy Sanders decided to move locations and start a new team called the Centex Cavalry in Belton, Texas.

The announcement came during the Aug. 11th press conference at the Bell County Expo Center, which will act as the new team’s main stadium for home games.

Sanders mentioned the reasons for the Bandits closure came down to two factors: first the market in San Angelo didn’t have a large enough fan base to keep the team's income flowing. The second was the economic down turn, which made it difficult for the Bandits to maintain momentum during a losing season.

Sanders is optimistic about getting an opportunity to start a new franchise in Belton given the “I-35 Corridor,” which gives way to a larger fan base.

Sanders will still remain as the Champions Indoor Commissioner for the Champions Indoor Football (CIF) league. There are 14 teams in the CIF for the 2017 season, and the league is expected to expand to 16 teams in the future.
