On April 15-17, two young athletes from the Concho Valley Gymnastics Team will be competing in Regionals at the TCU campus in Fort Worth, Texas. Jadyn Sawyer and Madison Vogel are both level eight gymnasts for the CVG Team, and will compete in the Region 3 Championships.
For these two gymnasts to compete at Regionals, they had to first qualify at the State meet in Frisco, Texas. Sawyer and Vogel qualified, and will now represent Texas at Regionals.
Sawyer and Vogel have been putting in countless hours of hard work and effort to accomplish their goals. Both athletes spend 12-15 hours, six days a week practicing and perfecting their routines. Sawyer has been practicing with the CVG Team for four years, while Vogel has been there for just one and a half years.
Head Coach Todd Brothers said, "They are both very excited to go and compete against gymnasts from several other states. It's a big accomplishment at this level!"
Both athletes are competing on Vault, Uneven Bars, Balance Beam and Floor Exercise. Brothers, said, “I'm excited they get to compete against gymnasts from other parts of the United States. They have trained hard and put in a lot of hours to get to this point. I know they will represent Concho Valley Gymnastics very well.”
Sawyer and Vogel are two out of 429 competitors who will be at Regionals. This event will feature level eight competitors from seven different states spanning across the county. These states include Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming.
Brothers also said, "We are part of "Team Texas" competing in Region 3 against these other states. Team Texas usually has the top gymnasts and have won the past several regional meets."
In 2009 Haylee Thompson attended Regionals for the CVG Team. In the past, Colorado has had gymnasts that were tough competition for the CVG Team.
Going to a big event and performing in front of many people, including judges, will be a challenge. San Angelo LIVE! wishes these two competitors the best of luck this weekend.
