‘Horns Fan Website: UT Officials Fly to Tulsa to Court Sterlin Gilbert

Chip Brown of HornsDigest.com reported late Friday that Sterlin Gilbert, the former ASU quarterback and Lake View High School football coach, will be the offensive coordinator at The University of Texas.

Gilbert, who is the current co-offensive coordinator at Tulsa was a two-time All-Lone Star Conference quarterback at Angelo State in 2000 and 2001, while serving as team captain both seasons, according to his bio at TulsaHurricane.com. Gilbert earned his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology with a minor in history from Angelo State in 2002.

HornsDigest.com reported that UT president Greg Fenves, UT athletic director Mike Perrin, coach Charlie Strong and UT run-game coordinator Jeff Traylor flew to Tulsa in a private plane Friday afternoon to convince Gilbert to take the UT job. Earlier during the day, two ESPN reporters tweeted that Gilbert had turned down the UT offer.

Friday evening, HornsDigest.com reported that UT will announce Gilbert is joining the ‘Horns coaching staff as its next offensive coordinator.

HornsDigest.co reported that Gilbert will bring a power spread offense to UT, allowing Coach Strong to transition from the current pro-style run and play-action pro-style offense the ‘Horns are currently running, said Chip Brown.
