Rick Dill and Ron Perry of the Fort Concho Cavalry Living History Unit won several awards at the National Cavalry Competition at Fort Reno, Oklahoma, on September 23-26.
Sponsored by the United States Cavalry Association, the competition brings together dozens of riders from across the country who portray various units and eras from the two centuries of America’s cavalry heritage.
Perry placed third in the intermediate Level II Class for both Military Horsemanship and Mounted Pistol, competing against 12 similarly ranked riders.
Dill placed first in the top Level I Class for Military Horsemanship. Rick also competed in the final course, called the Bolte Cup, named after retired Gen. Phil Bolte, a longtime Cavalry Association chairman.
Dill and Perry also received an award for Fort Concho for their portrayal of the 4th U.S. Cavalry.
Fort Concho will host a regional cavalry competition April 20-23, 2016 with the hopes of attracting up to 35 competitors. Fort Concho hosted the 2010 National Cavalry Competition and the 2000 annual meeting of the United States Cavalry Association.
