Canyon ISD’s McCallie Hired as SAISD Executive Director of Athletics

 

The San Angelo ISD school board unanimously approved the hiring of Brent McCallie as the new Executive Director of Athletics during the May 18 board meeting.

A west Texan, McCallie is currently the Athletic Director at Canyon ISD, where he has served since 2008.  He coached and taught U. S. History for twelve years before becoming Athletic Director at Dumas ISD and, five years later, at Canyon ISD, where he has been AD over two high schools. 

A district known for excellence in its athletic programs under McCallie’s leadership, Canyon won 12 of the 14 district championships in 3-5A during the current school year. 

After attending Western Oklahoma State on a baseball scholarship, McCallie earned a bachelor’s degree from Panhandle State University and attended Sul Ross University and West Texas A & M for graduate studies.

He and his wife, Karla, a high school counselor, have one son who is a senior at Canyon High School. 

McCallie succeeds Jim Slaughter who is retiring.
