Dr. Brian May, Angelo State University president, has announced the appointment of James Reid as interim athletic director for the university. Reid has led the men’s and women’s track and field programs since 1999 and has served as assistant athletic director since 2007.
Reid’s track and field teams have finished in the top three at every Lone Star Conference Championship during his tenure. His record includes an LSC title for the Rams and eight LSC titles for the Rambelles.
Under Reid’s guidance the Rambelles in 2010 earned the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championship, a feat that included two individual and a relay national championships; 12 individual All-America performances; two All-America relay teams; and the NCAA Division II National Female Field Athlete of the Year.
Sean Johnson, ASU athletic director since 2012, resigned to pursue other interests. May said, “We appreciate what Sean has done for ASU during his years here and wish him well in his future endeavors.” A search for a replacement is not scheduled at this time.
