WATCH: San Angelo Honors Veterans at Fairmount Cemetery

SAN ANGELO, TX — Members of the community gathered at Fairmount Cemetery on Tuesday morning for San Angelo’s annual Veterans Day Ceremony, honoring the men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

The event began with Chris Morgan performing Amazing Grace, followed by opening remarks from Beth Uherik, president of the Friends of Fairmount. Mayor Tom Thompson delivered the invocation before the Central High School Junior ROTC presented the colors. Sheriff Nick Hanna led the Pledge of Allegiance, and Andrea Thompson performed the National Anthem.

The ceremony included a historic spotlight from former Fairmount Cemetery Board Member Eva Horton and a guest address from Jan Lentz. Ceremonial honors featured artillery and three-volley salutes by Fort Concho National Historic Landmark, Taps performed by Chris Morgan, and a closing prayer from Police Chief Travis Griffith. Violinist Dorothy Douthit concluded the ceremony with Ashokan Farewell Medley.

Organizers encouraged attendees to remember and thank those who have served, highlighting appreciation for the freedoms protected by U.S. veterans.

The Friends of Fairmount extended a special thank-you to the volunteers who helped make the event possible.
