San Angelo ISD Prepares for Aug. 14 Start with Staffing Adjustments, New Statewide Device Ban
SAN ANGELO, TX — San Angelo ISD students will return to class Thursday, Aug. 14, and Superintendent Dr. Christopher Moran says the district is ready, even as it continues to fill a few teaching positions.
Moran said several staff members have stepped into temporary roles to help cover shortages, including Dana Felts, who will serve as interim principal at Goliad Elementary; Berta Sepulveda, temporarily leading Fannin Elementary; and Brandon Ligon, who is teaching fifth-grade science at Reagan Elementary.
The district is still hiring and encourages interested applicants to visit saisd.org or contact the superintendent’s office. Parents can also find bell schedules, supply lists, and registration details on the district website. Schedule pick-up for secondary students will be online Aug. 12, and “Meet the Teacher” nights for elementary schools are also listed online.
Moran urged drivers to watch for students walking or biking to school next week and to follow all school zone and bus stop laws. He also reminded families that House Bill 1481, a new statewide ban on electronic devices during school hours, will take effect this year. The law prohibits use of cell phones, smartwatches, and similar devices during the school day, with exceptions for medical needs.
“This isn’t an SAISD rule — it’s the law,” Moran said, noting that the district is working to ensure compliance while allowing responsible use in emergencies.

Other reminders include planning ahead for student pick-up and drop-off traffic, which is typically heavier during the first week of school.
“We’re really looking forward to our students being back Aug. 14,” Moran said. “It’s why we do this.”
