Watch San Angelo’s Juneteenth Parade Here

SAN ANGELO, TX — Martin Luther King Drive was filled with music, celebration, and community pride Saturday morning as San Angelo marked Juneteenth with its annual parade, hosted by the Blackshear Heights Family.

The parade began at 9 a.m. and featured cars, youth groups, dancers, steppers, and local leaders. Juneteenth honors the day in 1865 when the last enslaved people in Texas learned they were free. The Emancipation Proclamation was signed by President Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863. It declared that all enslaved people in the Confederate states that were still in rebellion were to be freed

Festivities will continue at the park throughout the day with food, vendors, music, bounce houses, a basketball tournament, and guest speakers reflecting on the significance of Juneteenth in San Angelo and beyond.

The celebration is organized by Blackshear Heights Family, a local nonprofit dedicated to empowering youth, honoring Black history, and building stronger neighborhoods through unity and service.
