Bob and Jean LeGrand Named Citizens of the Year at San Angelo Chamber Banquet

SAN ANGELO – The San Angelo Chamber of Commerce honored Dr. Bob LeGrand and his wife, Jean Ann LeGrand, as Citizens of the Year during the 109th Annual Banquet on Thursday night at the McNease Convention Center.

The prestigious award, chosen by a committee of past recipients, recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the community through generosity, leadership, and service. This year, the committee selected the LeGrands, whose impact on San Angelo spans decades.

Dr. Bob LeGrand, a respected neurosurgeon, moved to San Angelo in 1976 after serving in the U.S. Air Force as a flight surgeon from 1970 to 1972. His military service earned him two Distinguished Flying Crosses, three Air Medals, and a Bronze Star during a tour in Vietnam. His wife, Jean LeGrand, a Wall High School and Angelo State University graduate, dedicated her career to nursing before retiring in 1993.

The LeGrands have been longtime supporters of Angelo State University. Their philanthropy began in 2008 with the establishment of ASU’s first athletics scholarship endowment. They later funded major upgrades to the LeGrand Sports Complex, including a $1.4 million donation in 2014 that enabled the Rams football team to play home games on campus for the first time. More recently, they contributed $2.4 million toward the Rambelles Soccer Clubhouse and improvements at the LeGrand Soccer Complex, inspired by their granddaughter Katelin Heise’s award-winning soccer career with the team.

The announcement was made in front of a sold-out crowd of nearly 600 attendees.

The banquet also celebrated other achievements in San Angelo, including awards for innovation, outstanding business leadership, and community service.
