Town Hall Meeting: police chief discussion 11-14-22

Watch tonight's Town Hall Meeting LIVE. A little background on the meeting: The Charter Review Committee is looking at potential options for the May 2023 ballot regarding the police chief position. Options: 1. No changes, leave it as an elected position. 2. Remain elected position, add minimum qualifications. Currently the only requirements are to be 18 years of age and have resided in San Angelo for two years. 3. Change from elected to appointed (by the city manager) but define a process for the city manager to follow in making his selection for appointment. Visit cosatx.us/Charter for more information.

WATCH: Town Hall Meeting on Elected or Appointed Police Chief

SAN ANGELO, TX – The above video is the town hall meeting with the City of San Angelo's Charter Review committee.

The Charter Review Committee has been made to discuss what the city should do on the issue of whether or not San Angelo will elect or appoint its police chief.

This issue has been brought up to citizens a number of times and each time the citizens have voted the ordinance down. This time former Municipal Judge Alan Gilbert and his team will decide if they City should once again try and put the initiative on the ballot.
