TxDOT Installs Seven Dynamic Message Signs Around San Angelo

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Texas Department of Transportation installed seven dynamic message signs around San Angelo on Tuesday, giving drivers real-time travel updates on major roads.

The signs are located as follows: two on U.S. Highway 67, two on Loop 306, one on North U.S. Highway 87 near Grape Creek, and two on South U.S. Highway 87, according to TxDOT. Support poles for the signs had been installed in previous months.

The signs can display live travel times, accident warnings, severe weather alerts, and other messages, the district said in its post. TxDOT’s Sign Guidelines and Applications Manual states that dynamic message signs “are normally mounted on freeways to provide timely messages to motorists” and are used “where special conditions indicate a need to provide this extra level of information.”

The installations fall under Section 544.013 of the Texas Transportation Code, which requires TxDOT, working with local governments, to manage a system of changeable message signs on highways under its jurisdiction to ease congestion by giving the public current information.

An interactive map of dynamic message signs across Texas and the messages they display is available on TxDOT’s DMS Messages webpage.
