ASU Symphony Orchestra to Join Trans-Siberian Experience for Concert

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State University Symphony Orchestra will join the Mark Wood Trans-Siberian Experience for an orchestral classic rock concert Sunday, Oct. 18, at 6:30 p.m. at Murphey Performance Hall, 72 W. College Ave., in downtown San Angelo.

The performance will feature music from the Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Van Helsing's Curse, along with classic rock selections and original compositions by Mark Wood.

Wood is an international recording artist, Emmy Award-winning composer and Juilliard-trained violinist who created the Viper electric violin.

He was a founding member and original string master of the multi-platinum Trans-Siberian Orchestra and has collaborated with artists including Dee Snider, Celine Dion, Lenny Kravitz and Billy Joel.

The concert will also feature vocalist Laura Kaye, Wood's longtime partner, who has performed with James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Lenny Kravitz and Sean Lennon.

Wood and Kaye have spent 27 years working with young musicians through their Electrify Your Symphony education program, which has reached thousands of schools and raised millions of dollars for music education.

As part of that initiative, local orchestra students from Central and Lake View high schools will join the ASU Symphony Orchestra for Sunday's performance.

The ASU Symphony Orchestra consists of approximately 50 student musicians and is directed by Dr. Fagner Magrinelli Rocha, associate professor of music and director of orchestral activities.

The concert is open to the public, with adult tickets priced at $35 or $45 and student tickets available for $20.

Tickets can be purchased through the San Angelo Performing Arts Center website at sanangelopac.org.
