‘The Shape of Attention’ Exhibit by WTAMU Artist Opens Tuesday at Angelo State

SAN ANGELO, TX -- Angelo State University will host a special guest art exhibit by Rob Weingart, a member of the art faculty at West Texas A&M University, opening on Tuesday, Sept. 8, in the Carr Education-Fine Arts (EFA) Building, 2602 Dena Drive.

Titled "The Shape of Attention," the exhibit of Weingart's contemporary two- and three-dimensional assemblage pieces will be on display in the Carr EFA Building's Gallery 193 and will be open for free public viewing on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Nov. 13.

Weingart will also present a Gallery Talk about his exhibit on Nov. 12 at 3 p.m. in Room 101 of the Carr EFA Building. This event will also be open and free to the public.

A native of New York, Weingart relocated to the Texas Panhandle in 2014 and is currently an instructor of art at West Texas A&M. His work is influenced by ongoing dialog with his 2-D and 3-D design students. His recent works are confrontations with design challenges and are largely composed of studio debris, repurposed "art parts" and other disparate media. The management of shapes, intentional patterns, loose lines, varying textures and color manifest an attempt to put chaos into order. Ultimately, his objective is to create well-tuned and meditative objects that vacillate between painterly and sculptural concerns.

Also a former museum collections manager in New York, Weingart has displayed his artworks in galleries, studios and art shows in Texas, Illinois, New Mexico and New York, and he won the Best of 2023 Award from Glasstire for his display at the Lasso Gallery in Amarillo.

Weingart earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of North Texas and his Master of Fine Arts from the Art Institute of Chicago.
