San Angelo Regional Airport Awarded $10.6M

SAN ANGELO, TX — The City of San Angelo has received a $10,598,868 federal grant to construct 5,000 feet of new asphalt Taxiway H at San Angelo Regional Airport, continuing a multi-year push to modernize the facility.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration issued the notice of award on Aug. 14 under the Fiscal Year 2026 Airport Improvement Program. The project funds Phase 2 construction that will bring the airport into conformity with current standards, the award notice states.

Madelon Clark, communications director for U.S. Rep. August Pfluger (TX-11), shared the award details Tuesday, noting the office’s ongoing involvement in airport improvements.

The grant follows the $18 million in air traffic control tower upgrades announced in June by U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy during a visit to the airport with Pfluger. That earlier investment is funding new voice switches, radios, radar, fiber-optic lines and digital displays, with work expected to finish by fall 2027. Duffy also highlighted more than $44 million in total transportation grants directed to the district during his tenure.

The city previously solicited bids earlier this year to convert the existing Runway 9-27 into the new taxiway.

The latest funding adds to recent investments that support commercial service, Angelo State University’s growing aviation programs, Customs and Border Protection operations, and Goodfellow Air Force Base.
