SAN ANGELO, TX — The third annual Fess Parker “Fess-tival,” honoring San Angelo’s hometown television star, will take place Saturday, Aug. 15, at Fort Concho.
Parker was famous for playing Davy Crockett in the Walt Disney television miniseries in the 1950s, and Daniel Boone in a TV series from 1964 to 1970.
Saturday’s event will run from 10 a.m. to noon, while the evening program will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
All events will be at the fort’s Quartermaster Building, located at Burgess Street and East Avenue C. The Quartermaster Building served as the first home of the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, a project Parker supported. Parking and admission are free.
The morning program will include breakfast, displays and exhibits, period games, an 18th century weaponry firing demonstration and a Daniel Boone/Davy Crockett lookalike contest. Contest rules and guidelines are available at fortconcho.com. Prizes will be awarded in the adult (18 and older), youth (13-18) and youth (12 and under) divisions.
The evening program will feature refreshments, a trivia quiz and a showing of the movie The Light in the Forest, starring Fess Parker.
