Council Member Joe Self Responds to Recall Petition, Rejects Data Center Claims

SAN ANGELO, TX — City Council Member Joe Self on Thursday issued a statement supporting residents’ right to seek his recall while rejecting what he called misinformation about his role in potential data center projects.

This comes after the San Angelo Data Center Citizen Coalition said it turned in a recall petition against Self to the City Clerk with more than the required 385 signatures.

“I want to make it clear that I support our citizens’ right to file a recall petition," Self said in the statement. "I am, however, disappointed in the amount of misinformation surrounding this petition."

Self said some constituents had been given false information about his involvement with data centers in San Angelo. 

“I have not signed any non-disclosure agreements," he stated. "I have not benefited financially. I have not voted in favor of a data center. As a council, we have simply voted on regulations if a data center were established in our community.”

He added that San Angelo “listens to one another and works toward the greater good together,” describing that approach as the commitment he made when joining the council. 

“I will continue to serve my constituents and San Angelo as long as I am able and have no plans of stepping down,” he stated.
