SAN ANGELO, TX — A cut fiber-optic cable has caused a widespread internet outage in San Angelo on Wednesday, according to a spokesperson for Conterra Networks.
It’s believed a worker for a construction company cut the cable while digging.
The Conterra representative stated that the construction worker apparently failed to investigate into the presence of underground lines before digging.
“In my experience, this isn’t the type of deal that will be fixed in a half hour. This could take several hours,” the spokesperson said. “There are a lot of people that are going to be affected in that area.”
Conterra owns and operates a 15,000-mile fiber network that spans across 22 states. Numerous internet service providers use Conterra’s fiber-optic cables.
