SAN ANGELO, TX – The 17th Training Wing will host an immersion event for Goodfellow’s Honorary Commanders on Friday, June 5.
"The Honorary Commander program is one of our most vital bridges to the Concho Valley," said Col. Matthew Norton, 17th Training Wing commander. "By immersing our local leaders in the 17th Training Group’s mission, we aren't just showing them what we do — we're inviting them to be part of the 'Raider' team. These relationships are the foundation of the incredible support we receive from the San Angelo community."
The 17th Training Group is the largest of four groups that comprise the 17th TRW.
The group consists of five squadrons responsible for training fire protection professionals and conducting initial, intermediate and advanced education courses for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.
Honorary Commanders are members of the local community selected through an annual application process, according to the press release.
This upcoming event is part of a 12-month program focused on fostering and strengthening relationships with leaders in our community, according to the press release.
"Through the Honorary Commander program, we open our doors so the community can fully grasp the outsized impact of the 17th Training Wing and how it supports the mission of the United States Air Force and the Department of War," added Col. Norton. "Ultimately, this program is about forging a deep, mutual understanding between our military personnel and our civic partners."
