With crude oil prices hovering in the $100-per-barrel range, pump prices remain elevated as Texans prepare for one of the busiest Memorial Day travel periods on record. AAA Texas expects 3.7 million Texans to travel at least 50 miles from home between Thursday, May 21 and Monday, May 25, slightly higher than last year and 6.3% above 2019 levels. Driving remains the most popular way to travel, with 3.2 million Texans expected to take a road trip over the holiday period. As more families get ready to hit the road next week, drivers will be facing the highest Memorial Day gas prices in four years. View the AAA Texas Memorial Day travel forecast here.

“Memorial Day travel is expected to reach a record high in Texas, with most travelers choosing to drive,” said Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA Texas. “With crude oil hovering around the $100-per-barrel range, drivers should budget more for fuel as 3.2 million Texans prepare to take road trips over the holiday period.”
