AUSTIN, TX — Christoval continued its incredible theater tradition Tuesday by winning the Class 2A title at the UIL One-Act Play State Meet at the Austin ISD Performing Arts Center.
It’s the fourth state championship in the last eight years for Christoval, which also brought home first place in 2023, 2021 and 2018.
Since 2014, Christoval has also been the state runner-up three times — including last year — and qualified for state three other times.
This year, Christoval performed Goodnight Mister Tom, under the direction of Travis Morgansteen Harris, along with co-directors Abbie Willams and Christy Cotton.
Harris has led the theater department since 2012, continuing the tradition established by former director Tamra Kelley.
Christoval’s Renner Love was named the Outstanding Performer, while Kreed Kirland was honored as one of the Best Performers.
Stone Robbins was named to the Honorable Mention All-Star Cast, and Emma Hopkins was named the Outstanding Technician.
Christoval amassed 46 points from the judges, followed by De Leon (32), Sabine Pass (26), Sudan (26), Tioga (22), Centerville (20), Gary (18) and Shiner (14).
Christoval was the only Concho Valley school to advance to state this year, though we had other strong showings, including San Angelo Central taking sixth at the Region I-6A meet, Ozona taking fifth at the Region I-2A meet, and Water Valley and Bronte taking third and fifth, respectively, at the Region II-1A meet.
