Roller Coaster Temperatures Expected Across West Texas

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — A sharp swing in temperatures is forecast for West Texas over the next several days, starting with seasonally cool conditions Thursday before warming significantly into the weekend and then cooling again early next week, according to the National Weather Service in San Angelo. 

A strong cold front is expected to move south across the region Sunday afternoon, bringing much cooler daytime highs and cold nights through at least Tuesday, the service said in a forecast updated Thursday morning. Dry weather is anticipated throughout the period. 

High temperatures Thursday are projected in the mid-60s for most areas, including 68 degrees in Abilene, San Angelo and Ozona; 66 degrees in Ballinger, Coleman and San Saba; 63 degrees in Brady; 65 degrees in Brownwood; 69 degrees in Haskell and Sweetwater; and 68 degrees in Junction. Overnight lows will dip into the upper 30s to low 40s. 

Warming begins Friday, with highs climbing into the low to mid-80s: 87 degrees in Abilene, Sweetwater and San Angelo; 84 degrees in Ballinger, Haskell, Ozona and Junction; 79 degrees in Brady; 82 degrees in Brownwood; 83 degrees in Coleman; and 82 degrees in San Saba. Lows will range from 41 degrees to 51 degrees. 

Saturday will see the warmest conditions, with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s: 91 degrees in Abilene, Sweetwater and San Angelo; 90 degrees in Ballinger and Haskell; 84 degrees in Brady; 87 degrees in Brownwood; 88 degrees in Coleman and San Saba; 89 degrees in Ozona; and 98 degrees in Junction, based on the forecast graphic. Lows will be in the upper 40s to mid-50s. 

Sunday's highs will remain mild in the mid-80s to low 90s before the front arrives: 84 degrees in Abilene, Ballinger, Brady and Sweetwater; 86 degrees in Brownwood and Coleman; 81 degrees in Haskell; 89 degrees in Junction and Ozona; 88 degrees in San Angelo; and 89 degrees in San Saba. Lows will stay in the upper 40s to low 50s. 

Cooler air dominates Monday, with highs dropping to the mid-50s to low 60s: 57 degrees in Abilene, Ballinger, San Saba and Sweetwater; 54 degrees in Brady; 56 degrees in Brownwood and Coleman; 55 degrees in Haskell; 60 degrees in Junction and Ozona; and 58 degrees in San Angelo. Overnight lows will fall to the low to mid-30s, with potential for near-freezing conditions. 

Tuesday's highs will rebound slightly into the low 70s: 74 degrees in Abilene and Sweetwater; 73 degrees in Ballinger and San Angelo; 69 degrees in Brady; 70 degrees in Brownwood and Ozona; 72 degrees in Coleman; 75 degrees in Haskell; 73 degrees in Junction; and 71 degrees in San Saba. Lows remain chilly in the mid-30s. 

No precipitation is expected through early next week.
