ASU Stages 'Mr. Burns': Simpsons Episode Evolves into Post-Apocalypse Myth

SAN ANGELO, TX - University Theatre at Angelo State University will present the Drama League Award-nominated dark comedy "Mr. Burns, a Post-Electric Play" for its first production of the spring season, beginning Thursday, Feb. 26, in the ASU Modular Theatre.

Show times will be at 8 p.m. each night Feb. 26-28 and March 5-7, with a matinee finale performance at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 8. The Modular Theatre is located inside ASU's Carr Education-Fine Arts (EFA) Building at 2602 Dena Drive.

Tickets are $10 for the general public, $5 for non-ASU students, and free for Arts at ASU subscribers, ASU students and ASU activity card holders. Tickets are available for purchase online at angelo.edu/boxoffice or through the ASU box office in the Carr EFA Building.

Based on the book by Anne Washburn, "Mr. Burns, a Post-Electric Play" depicts the evolution of the story from the "Cape Feare" episode of the TV show "The Simpsons" that takes place in the decades after an apocalyptic event. What will endure when the cataclysm arrives - when the grid fails, society crumbles and we're faced with the task of rebuilding? This imaginative dark comedy is an animated exploration of how the pop culture of one era might evolve into the mythology of another.

Under the direction of Derek Rhein, instructor of theatre, the ASU student cast includes Mikey Hill, Maddox Caldwell, Kirby Paugh, Megan Lawrence, Natalie Madrid, Ana Tony, Ren Dutton and Madi Jackson. Understudies are Rylan Herrera, Arturo Preciado, Kyla Weiss and Madi Jackson.

The student production staff and crew include Zjay Wright, assistant director; Gabbie Flores, stage manager; Nahum Rodriguez, assistant stage manager; Alexis Crawford, scenic designer; Robyn Wagner, props designer/assistant scenic designer; Sidney Fisher, scenic painter; Alec Ochoa Razo, lighting designer/assistant fight choreographer; Kate Lopez, costume designer; Addie Gregoire, assistant costume designer; Janae Wilson, sound designer; and Kyla Weiss, assistant sound designer.

Josh Brewer, director of University Theatre, is the violence and intimacy coordinator.
