ASU's 12th Annual Girl Power Event: Kind Girls, Strong World

 

SAN ANGELO, TX - Angelo State University's regional office of the Laura W. Bush Institute for Women's Health will host its 12th annual "Girl Power" event, designed to empower young girls and the women in their lives, on Saturday, Jan. 31, from 3-5 p.m. in the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive.

Titled "Girl Power: Kind Girls, Strong World," the free event is open to 3rd - 5th grade girls and their mothers, or other important women in their lives, and will be held in the University Center's C.J. Davidson Conference Center. The program will include a presentation by Jessie Clark-Funk, an acclaimed author, vocalist and youth speaker who has spent more than a decade empowering students through storytelling, music and research-based leadership tools.

Additionally, the program will include a panel discussion with ASU students representing a wide range of academic disciplines and career fields, offering attendees real-life examples of women's ambition. Panel members will include:

  • Alyssa Keeling - Nursing major, officer in the Student Nursing Association

  • Daniella Childress - Biology major, vice president of Honors Student Association, Tri-Beta honor society representative, member of Women' Health Club

  • Kianna Ortiz - Teacher Education major, president of Student Government Association, member of Kappa Delta Pi honor society and Alpha Phi sorority

  • Lexi Gonzales - Business/Marketing major, Rambelles soccer player

The mothers and other "power women" will also be treated to a breakout session, where they will hear from Dr. Vanessa King, a licensed professional counselor in San Angelo, and receive practical tools and strategies for supporting young girls.

There is no cost to attend the event, but pre-registration is requested through the online form on the ASU website.

Founded in 2010, the ASU office of the Laura W. Bush Institute for Women's Health is dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls in Texas and across the nation by advancing multidisciplinary science in women's health.
