Utility Pole Explosion Causes San Angelo Power Outage

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — A utility pole fire and explosion knocked out power to 247 customers in San Angelo on Friday afternoon.

AEP Texas reported the outage began at 3:14 p.m., with an estimated restoration time of 6 p.m. 

The company listed the status as “assessing” as of late afternoon. 

Photos from the scene show flames starting at the top of a wooden utility pole near North Abe Street and West Third Street, followed by intense sparking and an explosion that sent embers and smoke into the air. 

Southbound traffic in the immediate area is being impacted.
