City Council Votes to Support Tax Credits for Affordable Housing Projects

SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo City Council took a step this week to encourage more affordable housing options in the area as home prices and rent continue to climb.

In their Jan. 13 meeting, council members voted to provide general support for state tax credits targeted at developers building low-income housing.

The council’s support for tax credits is intended to attract developers to the area and help expand housing options for lower-income residents.

Two proposed sites for new apartment complexes are under consideration along Lutheran Way and Arden Road.

City leaders described the move as part of a larger push to tackle the growing need for affordable housing in San Angelo — an issue that is gaining attention both locally and across the country.

At least one affordable housing apartment project is already slated to move forward this year after earning a designation from the state of Texas.
