Houston Harte Detour Adds Temporary Signal at Bell and Hughes

SAN ANGELO, TX — Houston Harte Expressway between Main Street and Bell Street has been closed in both directions since Wednesday, Oct. 1, for drainage repairs tied to July 4 flood damage.

To manage increased detour traffic, the City of San Angelo is installing a temporary traffic signal at Bell and Hughes streets. The installation was scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15. The signal will remain until TxDOT completes the repairs and the expressway section reopens, which was reported to be during the winter of 2025-2026.

TxDOT lists Loop 306 to U.S. 87 south of town as the official detour. Many local drivers are expected to use Pulliam Street between Main and Bell. Eastbound traffic must exit at Main Street; westbound traffic must exit at Bell Street.

Officials advise drivers to expect delays during peak hours and to use caution in the work zone.
