Houston Harte to Close Oct. 1 for Flood-Damaged Bridge Repairs

SAN ANGELO, TX — All lanes of Loop 306/Houston Harte Expressway between North Oakes Street and Bell Street will be fully closed beginning Wednesday, Oct. 1, due to extensive flood damage to bridge infrastructure, according to the City of San Angelo and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).

The closure is expected to last through winter 2026, with reopening estimated within the next few months of that season, weather permitting.

The closure will affect eastbound and westbound traffic through the stretch highlighted in red on TxDOT’s detour maps, as shown in the pictures below. On-ramps at Bell Street, North Oakes Street, and North Main Street will also be impacted.

TxDOT recommends drivers plan ahead and follow marked detour routes to avoid the closure. Maps provided by TxDOT illustrate the closure area and suggested detour routes for through traffic.

No specific timeline has been provided for when individual ramps will close.

Motorists are advised to use caution in the area and allow extra time for commutes.
