Howard College to Launch Aviation Maintenance Technology Program

SAN ANGELO, TX – Howard College has announced the launch of its new Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) program, beginning in Fall 2025.

With a focus on hands-on training and real-world application, the AMT program is a key addition to Howard College’s growing portfolio of career and technical education offerings, information from the college stated.

The program is designed to prepare students for high-demand careers in aviation maintenance. It will offer hands-on training in aircraft systems, diagnostics, and repair techniques. In partnership with Skyline Aviation Training  Academy, the program brings industry-relevant instruction directly to the West Texas region.

“We’re thrilled to provide this opportunity to students in and around San Angelo,” said Pam Callan, Provost.  “Aviation maintenance technicians are essential to the future of transportation, and this program will open the  door to high-paying, stable careers in a growing industry.”

As the most affordable AMT programs in West Texas, the curriculum is designed to balance technical instruction with practical experience. Graduates will be prepared to pursue Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification and enter the workforce with competitive skills.

Classes will be held at a new training facility at 3669 Porter Henderson Dr, with access to professional-grade equipment and instruction from experienced aviation professionals.

"The development of the AMT program would not have been possible without the support of key community partners," information from the college states. "Skyline Aviation Training Academy has provided invaluable industry expertise and resources to help shape the program's hands-on curriculum and training environment. Additionally, the City of San Angelo Development Corporation (COSADC) has played a vital role in supporting the program’s launch through economic development initiatives and infrastructure planning. Their collaboration reflects a shared investment in workforce development and regional growth."

Prospective students are encouraged to contact Neil Phillips, Program Chair, directly for more information about admissions and program details. He can be reached at [email protected] or 325-481-8300-3303.
