SAN ANGELO, TX — A San Angelo barbecue restaurant owner was named one of the top 12 restaurateurs in Texas during the state’s largest restaurant industry event.
Donald Kennemer, co-owner of Packsaddle Bar-B-Que, earned recognition at the Texas Restaurant Association’s annual Texas Restaurant Awards ceremony on July 20 in Houston, where he was honored as a nominee for the TRA’s Outstanding Restaurateur of the Year.
Kennemer received the San Angelo chapter’s Restaurateur of the Year award on July 18, securing his place as one of a dozen nominees for the statewide honor. The award highlights restaurateurs for leadership, community involvement and excellence in the food industry.
“This award celebrates restaurant leaders who go above and beyond,” the San Angelo TRA chapter said in a statement. “Donald’s dedication to great food, strong leadership, and the San Angelo community makes him a standout in the industry.”
The top statewide award ultimately went to San Antonio’s Southerleigh Hospitality Group.
Donald and his wife, Tracey, have operated Packsaddle Bar-B-Que since June 2021. The restaurant, established in 1984, is located at 6007 Knickerbocker Road and opens daily at 10 a.m.

Obviously the texas restaurant association has never eaten at his establishment. It's dirty, the tables and booths are ancient and almost always sticky from not being cleaned and the bbq is the worst in town. Place used to be REALLY good but in 2021 it went downhill faster than the CEO of Astronomer when he saw his face on the jumbotron with his mistress!!
