'Stuff the Bus' Drive Aims to Ease Back-to-School Costs for San Angelo Families

SAN ANGELO, TX – Back-to-school season should be an exciting time, but for many families, the rising cost of supplies adds extra stress.

That’s why The Salvation Army is gearing up to host “Stuff the Bus” events at participating Walmart stores — making it easy for shoppers to give local students a strong start to the school year.

On Saturday, July 19, 2025, shoppers at the Walmart located at 5501 Sherwood Way can grab a few extra school supplies and drop them in Salvation Army collection bins right at the front of the store. Every donation helps a child in San Angelo head back to class with confidence.

“We’re teaming up with Walmart to help San Angelo students start the school year strong,” said Major Alfonso Martinez, with The Salvation Army. “Please help us send children from our community back to school with confidence and all the supplies they need. For some families affected by the recent floods, this support is even more important this year. Join us on Saturday, July 19 from 10 AM to 4 PM at Walmart on Sherwood. We’ll be collecting school supplies all day and hope to see you there.”

The Salvation Army has a school supply registry available online so people can support the campaign without even leaving their homes. The supply list can be found at this link: https://www.walmart.com/registry/RR/d74a5c13-8e4d-4036-aab7-d378f55a6f3c.

“The online registry makes it easier than ever for people to support the Stuff the Bus campaign,” said Major Martinez. “Without even leaving the house, you can order pencils, pens, glue, highlighters, scissors and more to help set up a child for a great year at school.”

If you would like to register to receive school supplies, you must pre-register at 122 W 2nd Street, on July 21-25 from 9 AM-12 PM. You also MUST BRING: Photo ID, child(s) birth certificate, and proof of residency.

Contact The Salvation Army with any questions at (325) 655-6981.

All school supplies collected during the campaign will stay in the local community, directly benefiting San Angelostudents.
