SAN ANGELO, TX — Wings of Rescue, the nation’s largest air transport charity for pets, will perform an operation in San Angelo on Thursday, July 10.
At about 11 a.m., pets from flood zones will be loaded onto a plane for a short flight to Fort Worth, where they will be transported to the Humane Society of North Texas.
The pets are being collected by the Austin-based rescue group, Austin Pets Alive.
The July 4 flooding in San Angelo claimed one life and damaged thousands of structures. Across the state, more than 100 people have died from flooding, most of them in Kerr County.
Wings of Rescue, which is based in Los Angeles, California, is dropping off pet food and veterinarian supplies in San Marcos on Tuesday.
The volunteer group will then fly up to 150 pets from San Marcos to Kanab, Utah on Wednesday.
Wings of Rescue will fly out of Ranger Aviation, 8802 Hangar Road, in San Angelo.
