San Angelo Approves $2M Water Meter Purchase

SAN ANGELO, TX — The City of San Angelo is moving forward with a $2,015,302 purchase of water meters from Core & Main, Inc., following approval during Tuesday’s City Council meeting.

The purchase is part of a multi-year initiative by the Water Utilities Department to replace aging water meters throughout the city. The program uses a phased approach to spread costs over time and reduce strain on annual operating budgets.

City officials said the upgrade will help meet federal compliance deadlines set by the Environmental Protection Agency under the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions. These rules require stricter timelines for service line testing and public notification.

By accelerating both meter replacements and service line testing, the city expects to complete the project by late spring or early summer of 2027.

Funding will come from the Water Capital fund, with no additional impact to the general fund.
