SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo Independent School District brought books, smiles, and summer excitement to students' doorsteps recently through its annual San Angelo READS! Summer Book Patrol.
On June 4, a single day of surprise deliveries featured SAISD administrators, principals, educators, and staff hand-delivering more than 160 books, along with activity bags, snacks, and balloons, to 24 students and their 41 siblings across the city.
Now in its fifth year, the Summer Book Patrol is part of the district’s San Angelo READS! initiative, aimed at fostering a lifelong love of reading and maintaining student engagement over the summer months. The program emphasizes not just literacy, but also the importance of showing students that their education matters year-round.
SAISD extended special thanks to the SAISD Difference Maker team and H-E-B for their ongoing support in helping build a community culture centered around literacy.

Founded in 2020, the San Angelo READS! Initiative promotes literacy throughout the district and the broader community. Launched with the inaugural San Angelo READS! Day in December 2020, the program continues to expand with efforts like book vending machines, community reading events, and literacy campaigns.
Research shows that students who read for pleasure perform better on reading and writing assessments. San Angelo READS! aims to ensure every student has access to books and is encouraged to become a lifelong reader.
