SAN ANGELO, TX — MHMR Concho Valley held the grand opening of its Crisis Diversion Center on Wednesday, May 28.
The center, located at 250 N. Magdalen St., is dedicated to providing immediate, short-term care for individuals experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis.
The goal is to prevent individuals needing help from ending up in jail or an emergency room, where the appropriate treatment may not be available.
“We believe that incarceration and punishment is not the only way to success. It’s not the only way to treat these neighbors and individuals in our community,” said Steven Garlock with MHMR Concho Valley. “We believe there is a path to success, a path to change, a path to support for them. And with this new Crisis Diversion Center that we have and a caring mind, we’re hoping to change lives here.
“As many of you know, the mission statement for MHMR Concho Valley is ‘Helping people help themselves,’ and that’s kind of what our foundation is here. We’re not here to give folks a handout, give them a free ride and wish them the best. Our goal is to equip them with the tools to be self-sufficient, to be members of this community, and to continue to grow and thrive.”
