SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo City Council will swear in newly elected officials, including the mayor and representatives from Single Member Districts 4 and 6, during its regular meeting Tuesday, May 20, at 8:30 a.m. at the McNease Convention Center.
Mayor Brenda Gunter will present certificates of election, and Judge Jay Daniel will administer the oaths of office. Mayor Tom Thompson will present plaques and service awards to outgoing council members. A public reception will follow the ceremony on the second floor. The regular agenda is scheduled to resume approximately 30 minutes later with the newly seated council.
The ceremony follows the council’s official canvassing of the May 3 election results. Thomas “Tom” Thompson won the mayoral race with 5,095 votes. Patrick Keely was elected to represent Single Member District 4, receiving 507 votes. In Single Member District 6, Mary Coffey ran unopposed and was declared elected.
A runoff election has been scheduled for Single Member District 2, where no candidate received a majority. Joe Self Jr., who earned 485 votes, will face Dudra Butler, who received 432 votes, in a runoff set for Saturday, June 7.
Among the items on the consent agenda, the council will consider authorizing the city manager to apply for and accept a grant from the Texas Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority. The $160,755 grant request would fund a drone for the San Angelo Police Department to support the FLOCK license plate reader program and enhance efforts to combat organized motor vehicle theft. The city would be responsible for a 20% match of $26,793.

Zoning hearings for a proposed assisted living development and land use changes along Waco Street and W. 18th Street.

A $106,200 task order and a $95,029 change order related to the Hickory Expansion Project.

The council will also consider authorizing the use of $62,213.20 in State/Local Seizure funds to support IT infrastructure, surveillance systems, office furnishings for the new Narcotics Task Force building, DNA testing of shell casings, and the purchase of body armor.

Acceptance of a Narcan donation from the DEA.

Final votes on ordinances related to summer camps and rezoning along N. Chadbourne Street.
The meeting will also include a proclamation recognizing May as National Trauma Awareness Month.
