SAN ANGELO, TX— The Western Roundup will be held Saturday at the River Stage in downtown San Angelo.
The Western Roundup is a cancer benefit concert where all the proceeds will go to five individuals who are currently battling cancer. Those five are Mallary Campos, Konner Barnes, Carlie Jo Johnson, Robert Lasater, and Ray Cook.
Mallary Campos
Mallary Campos is 35 years old and was diagnosed with Stage 2B breast cancer in August 2024. She currently has two more months of chemotherapy to complete, then will undergo a double mastectomy in April 2025. After the surgery, she will have to continue treatments of immunotherapy infusions for one year with possible radiation.
Mallary is married with four children, ages 17, 14, 3, and 6 months old.
Konner Barnes
Konner Barnes is a 21-year-old who was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma in July 2024. He underwent surgery to remove as much of the cancerous tumor as possible. His medical plan is 14 rounds of chemotherapy which included five different treatments.
He has completed 10 rounds to date.
Once chemotherapy is completed, he will then have to undergo six weeks of radiation at MD Anderson in Houston.
Konner is a graduate of Veribest High School.
Carlie Jo Johnson
Carlie Jo Johnson is 19 years old and was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia on April 24, 2024, at the end of her senior year at San Angelo Central High School. She was close to being in remission, but the leukemia returned on Jan. 10, 2025.
Carlie Jo has been accepted into the pre-nursing program at Texas Tech. She is still determined in pursuing that dream once she conquers cancer.
She has worked closely with The Earl Youngs team and DKMS to find a bone marrow donor and to help others find donors as well. Over 6,000 have joined the registry under Carlie Jo's name. She is currently receiving treatment in the Dallas area during her treatments.
Robert Lasater
Robert Lasater is 62 years old and was diagnosed with renal carcinoma with metastasis to the spine on Dec. 1, 2024. Robert is currently undergoing immunosystemic therapy every three weeks. He will be re-evaluated in March to determine what further treatments and/or surgeries will be required. Robert has three children, who are all married, and five grandchildren.
He enjoys camping, fishing, and boating.
Ray Cook
Ray Cook is 76 years old and was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma in October 2022. As a result of the cancer, they removed his right kidney. In May 2024, scans showed the cancer had re-occurred and it has metastasized.
He now has Stage 4 cancer and is undergoing oral chemotherapy.
