City Council Approves Construction of New Disc Golf Course in San Angelo

SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo City Council approved the construction of a new disc golf course during its meeting Tuesday morning at the McNease Convention Center.

It will be the seventh public disc golf course in the city.

The nine-hole course will be on a five-acre portion of land at Jaime Padron Memorial Park, 2730 Ben Ficklin Road.

The construction and maintenance of the course will be privately funded by the San Angelo Disc Golf Club.

The course will feature concrete tee pads, along with signs that include the distance for each hole.

Although there is already a proposed layout, there is expected to be a trial period before the course is permanently constructed.

As opposed to traditional golf, disc golf’s impact on the landscape is minimal and can often be easily integrated into an existing park.

Disc golf is typically free to play — though there are pay-to-play courses — and equipment is considerably cheaper than for traditional golf.

San Angelo’s other disc golf courses are:

  • North Concho Disc Golf Course, 1951 N. River Dr.
  • Picnic Bend Park, 1201 N. River. Dr.
  • Brentwood Park, 1321 N. Harrison St.
  • Angelo State University, 2601 W. Ave. N
  • South Concho Park Disc Golf Course, 850 S. Concho Park Dr.
  • Grassy Meadows Disc Golf Course, Middle Concho Drive
