Incredible Update on Kash Nelson After More Than a Month in Hospital

AUSTIN, TX— The San Angelo child who fell into a pool earlier this year has opened his eyes after being in the hospital for more than a month.

Kash Nelson's parents have been keeping everyone updated on his condition on Facebook since the tragic accident March 13, when Kash crawled through a pet door and nearly drowned in a pool.

They shared Wednesday morning that Kash opened his eyes a day earlier in an encouraging sign of progress.

Matt Nelson said in a Facebook post:

Kash had a big day yesterday! We did more trach care and mom got to do her second hold while our favorite trach specialist cleaned so she could have some more practice.

Getting better everyday!

I’m going to do my third change tomorrow so we can make sure everything is still good and I can get my confidence back on it after the little issues we had on Monday. He stormed for a good bit yesterday morning but ended up calming down after a little while.

Big news! We got on the home vent!

Lung doctor came in yesterday during his storms and still said he was looking great so we will see how it goes. He has done amazing on it but he’s only been on it for about half a day so we will continue to monitor and make sure everything is still going great!

Everyday is better than the last!

WE are now on the road to rehab everyday is a step closer. He showed us anther huge step yesterday! He was also to open that other eye a little bit as well! He is not fully awake/alert but it is the most we’ve seen so far!

We were finally able to get him to turn his head to the left instead of the right and it moved enough fluids around. It was enough for him to show us he can open that other one.

He slightly reacts to our voices but still not fully. Still amazing news and we shed some tears of joy yesterday!
