SAN ANGELO, TX – Alicia Christina Lozano, a San Angelo mother battling Stage 4 kidney failure, is urgently seeking a living kidney donor to improve her chances of survival so she can continue supporting her 10-year-old daughter.
Lozano, who has been on dialysis for nearly two years, is currently listed for a kidney transplant at Houston Methodist and Dallas/Fort Worth Medical City. She also qualifies for a pancreas transplant, which would eliminate her lifelong struggle with Type 1 diabetes, a condition she has managed since childhood.
Despite undergoing dialysis three times a week at 5:30 a.m., Lozano remains dedicated to her job at West Texas Lighthouse for the Blind and stays active in her daughter’s life. Her daughter participates in multiple activities, including karate, softball, and volleyball, which Lozano says motivates her to keep fighting.
Lozano, who is legally blind in one eye, is using social media to raise awareness about her need for a donor. She said doctors encouraged her to share her story online, hoping it would connect her with someone willing to donate a kidney. Even if a direct match is not found, a donor swap program could help her secure a compatible kidney.
“I’m trying to get better for my daughter," she said. "That’s the main reason I’m doing this.”
She encourages the public to share her story and consider becoming a donor. More information about living kidney donation is available at www.houstonmethodistlivingdonor.org.
