Kash's Father Offers Update on One-Year-Old's Condition

SAN ANGELO, TX— The father of the one-year-old who fell into a pool last week has given an update on his son’s condition.

Matt Nelson, Kash’s father, has posted an update on his son’s condition on Facebook.

The post reads:

"Update on Kash: MRI results came back.

There was damage to his center part of the brain called the Thalamus. This is the main part controls his consciousness, that is why he is still asleep.

They explained that this is going to be a marathon not a race, a baby step is still a step. His physical health is doing amazing, he is stabilizing this temperature, his blood pressure, things like that. He is still breathing over the tube a little and coughing a little.

They are potentially going to try to take the breathing tube out within the next week. But with the brain injury, kids can rewire their brain, even though they cannot grow brain cells back they can work around the area.

The neurologists say he could just wake up and be himself when he does wake up or he could need some help from their amazing rehab team here in Austin. The biggest takeaway is he is still with us and is still in there.

This is going to be a long process, but he is still getting better every day.

Thank you everyone for your prayers! Praying to get his brain back in action!"

Kash was injured when he crawled out of a residence through a doggy door and fell into a pool. Matt has given other updates on his son's condition on GoFundMe.
