SAN ANGELO, TX – San Angelo ISD celebrated the official ribbon-cutting for a new addition at McGill Elementary School on Friday, designed with sustainability and efficiency in mind as part of the district’s long-term planning.
The expansion, which combines McGill and Austin Elementary Schools into one campus, includes 15 new classrooms, a cafeteria, additional restrooms, a new entryway, and updated pick-up and drop-off areas.

The district collaborated with the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce for the ceremony, which was attended by community members, educators, and local officials. The 34,558-square-foot addition is designed to enhance learning opportunities, improve operational efficiency, and foster teacher collaboration.
“We were pleased to share this joyous moment with members of our San Angelo community,” said Shannon Schwartz, SAISD executive director of communications. “We are thankful for Parkhill for their thoughtful design and Lewis Construction for bringing it to life.”
The project aligns with the district’s efforts to create a more resource-rich environment for students while reducing costs. The new facility serves students and staff from both McGill and Austin Elementary, which were consolidated into one campus at the start of the 2024-2025 school year.
