ASU Symphonic Band to Showcase Student Conductors in Free Concert

SAN ANGELO, TX - The Angelo State University Symphonic Band will present its first concert of the spring season on Monday, March 10, in the Murphey Performance Hall at 72 W. College Ave. in downtown San Angelo.

Titled "Just for Fun," the concert will begin at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The program will feature a variety of upbeat music, with each piece conducted by a different ASU music student. Works to be performed include:

• "Split Second" by Bruce Trippette - conducted by Michael Estrada of San Angelo
• "Rumba de la Tumba" by JaRod Hall - conducted by Jayden Woodard of Brownwood
• "The Cave You Fear" by Michael Markowski - conducted by Jaime Herrera of Abilene
• "St. Petersburg March" by Johnnie Vinson - conducted by Karina Rojas of Channelview
• "Cyclone" by Michael Oare - conducted by Ivette Morales of Del Rio
• "Rondo, Chaconne, and March" by Augustus Martz - conducted by Jon Rodriguez of Big Lake
• "Groovee!" by Richard Saucedo - conducted by Carol Campbell of Mertzon
• "Alegria" by Carol Brittin Chambers - conducted by Corey DeChaine of Del Rio

The ASU Symphonic Band includes more than 70 student musicians performing on various woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. It is directed by Dr. Jonathan Alvis, ASU director of bands.
