SAN ANGELO, TX - The Angelo State University Symphony Orchestra will present its first concert of the spring season on Saturday, March 1, at 5:30 p.m. in the Grace Christian Church at 29 N. Oakes St. in downtown San Angelo.
Titled "Carmen!," the concert is free and open to the public. The ASU Symphony Orchestra will be joined by soprano music student Andrea Thompson of San Angelo, winner of ASU's 2024 Concerto Competition. She will provide vocals for performances of:
- "Glitter and Be Gay" by Leonard Bernstein
- "Queen of the Night Aria" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
The Symphony Orchestra will also perform:
- "Hungarian Dance No. 5" by Johannes Brahms
- Excerpts from "Carmen" by Georges Bizet
- "Espana Cani" by Pascual Marquina Narro
The ASU Symphony Orchestra includes about 50 student musicians and is directed by Dr. Fagner Magrinelli Rocha, associate professor of music.
