Fort Concho to Host Living History Training This Weekend

SAN ANGELO, TX — From Friday to Sunday, Feb. 7-9, Fort Concho will host the School of the Soldier, a living history training course for current and future volunteers who portray the soldiers of the 1870s and 1880s.

Staff and volunteers will be drilling on the Parade Ground, performing guard duty, taking lessons in the period uniforms, weaponry and equipment, and performing other activities common to the enlisted soldier of the time.

Living history volunteers at the fort participate in annual events such as Frontier Day and Christmas at Old Fort Concho, and they march in local parades and travel to other forts and historical events in the region to promote Fort Concho.

The public is welcome to observe on Saturday, Feb. 8, during the fort’s regular guest hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
