SAN ANGELO, TX — City Manager Daniel Valenzuela has announced the creation of the Animal Services & Control Task Force, a nine-member team tasked with addressing issues related to animal control and welfare.
The initiative, authorized by the City Council, seeks to prioritize public health, safety, and the well-being of animals in the community.
The task force’s first meeting is scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, at City Hall. The meeting will be closed to the public, allowing members to set their agenda and outline future goals.
Task force members were selected through interviews conducted by Valenzuela, who assessed candidates’ knowledge and objectivity to assemble a diverse and experienced team. Objectives include reducing the free-roaming dog population, increasing spay/neuter rates, managing shelter capacity, and updating local ordinances. Volunteerism and community partnerships will also be components.
“Establishing a focused and knowledgeable task force is critical to developing effective and balanced solutions for our community,” Valenzuela said. “This team’s dedicated efforts will help us address these issues in a way that ensures public health and safety while also addressing animal welfare.”
The city has pledged to keep residents informed as the task force progresses, with updates to be shared regularly.
