COLLEGE STATION, TX - San Angelo native Marc Menchaca, an actor and Texas A&M University alumnus, visited the campus this past weekend with his wife, Lena Headey, best known for her portrayal of Cersei Lannister on HBO’s “Game of Thrones.”
The couple toured Texas A&M’s Cushing Memorial Library and Archives, home to a renowned science fiction and fantasy collection, including works by George R.R. Martin, the author of A Song of Ice and Fire—the basis for the HBO series.
Menchaca, Class of ’98, and Headey explored the collection guided by curator Jeremy Brett, who showcased highlights such as original manuscripts, rare books, and Lannister swords in honor of Headey’s iconic character.
The Cushing Library houses Martin’s personal collection, which he donated in 1993 after recalling Texas A&M’s facilities from his visit to AggieCon in the 1970s. The collection includes rare literary treasures, such as the first edition of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit.
The visit coincided with the announcement of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Research Collection Endowment, established to support acquisitions, exhibitions, and events.
For more information on the collection and how to contribute, visit the Texas A&M Foundation website.
